Howard’s Farm

Six generations of free range farming the way nature intended.

Don Howard’s Farm to Table Meats

In 1849 my great grandfather Stephen Howard Jr ( the son of a Quaker settler ) started herding cattle just north of Newmarket, Ontario.

We are honoured to have been presented by the town of Newmarket with the 150 year farming award.

At 16, I was looking for pasture just up the road to rent to raise livestock and create feed for my animals. I’m in my seventies now and haven’t ventured very far from where it all began for the Howard family farming tradition.

About 15 minutes east, my daughter Lori and husband Bryant live on our main farm in Sanford where the animals are pasture raised. If you have ever been to the white house on 2nd Concession Road ( pickups ) or the Newmarket Farmer’s Market, you will have met my son Michael ( and wife Melodie ).

We only sell the highest quality meats to ensure every plate that features our meat is a memorable and healthy experience. We constantly strive to ensure consistent flavor, marbling, and tenderness.

Our passion is farming! We have great respect for our animals and we are committed to be good stewards of the land.

At the end of the day, we are driven by relationship. On Thursdays, there is a non stop stream of regulars from morning to night. It really is a special community that feels like social hour! It’s these relationships that keep us going. Especially the last few years. We really appreciate you.

If we have already met, you know how much I love sharing about how we farm, how to recognize quality food and how to store your food to get the most from it!

Along with our meat products, we also support local growers and producers. We offer pickles and jams from Kountry Korner ( Mount Forest , ON ). I love that when I read their ingredients label, its short and I know what everything is! Our most popular is the pickled beets. Empire Cheese’s first factory was built in the late 1870s and is now owned by local dairy farmers. We offer a variety of Empire’s naturally aged cheese. Our honey comes from a local beekeeper with hives located right here on our property and maple syrup from our sugar bush. ( Download our price list/order form from the “Order” page. )

We have been at the Newmarket Farmer’s Market since they started in 1999. Please be sure to drop by on Saturdays 8am-1pm May to Oct. and say hello – we’d love to meet you!

Being part of the dynamic and equitable local food community continues to inspire us. We’re excited to bring quality, healthy and delicious meat to your table!
